Start Off the New Year Right With Peace of Mind From a Vascular Ultrasound

The new year 2025 is here, and there's no better time to take care of your health. Living with varicose veins, venous insufficiency, or peripheral artery disease leads to other health problems that you can get ahead of with a vascular ultrasound.

If you're ready to take control of your health, our Vein, Heart, and Vascular Institute team can help. Dr. Hesham Fakhri and Dr. Octavio Cosme provide vascular ultrasounds and other vein treatments to optimize your health in the new year.

Who needs a vascular ultrasound?

Vascular ultrasound is a noninvasive diagnostic tool for evaluating blood flow in the veins and arteries. We typically use it on the arms, legs, and neck to check for decreased blood flow or clots.

You may require a vascular ultrasound if you have symptoms that indicate a vascular problem. Swelling, skin changes, or pain, especially in your legs or arms, warrant an investigation through vascular ultrasound.

We may also recommend a vascular ultrasound for other reasons. People who may require a vascular ultrasound include those who:

Certain conditions also warrant a closer look with a vascular ultrasound. If you're living with vein disease, atherosclerosis, or cardiovascular issues, a vascular ultrasound provides us with essential information for treatment.

How a vascular ultrasound works

A vascular ultrasound is a noninvasive diagnostic tool that utilizes sound waves to make images of the veins and arteries. A transducer, or handheld device, glides over the skin and emits sound waves.

The sound waves echo through the veins and arteries, creating a detailed image on the device's screen. The images provide detailed information about circulation and vessel health.

You don't need to prepare for the procedure in any specific way. When you come in, you put on a hospital gown, if necessary, and get comfortable on the exam table.

We bring the ultrasound machine and apply lubricating jelly to the transducer wand. The jelly allows the transducer to glide effortlessly over your skin, and you may feel pressure as we move the handpiece over your skin to take the ultrasound images.

After the ultrasound, you clean up and get dressed, then go about your normal activities. There's no downtime or risks because the test is noninvasive.

Benefits of a vascular ultrasound

A vascular ultrasound is an excellent way to start a healthy new year. It has multiple benefits compared with other procedures and enables us to find any problems in your veins and arteries.

The advantages of the procedure include:

A vascular ultrasound is a good option if you're experiencing any symptoms that signal a problem with blood flow, such as a clot or aneurysm. Because it's noninvasive and safe, we can detect various issues without side effects or downtime.

It also allows us to take the findings and develop a customized treatment plan for your needs. While other testing may be necessary, a vascular ultrasound provides the information we need to help you optimize your health in 2025.
